WASHINGTON — A little girl’s fight for her life got a big boost from her favorite pop star.
Eleven-year-old Naomi Oakes was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia — an aggressive type of cancer, which will require up to nine months of intensive therapy in the hospital.
The extended stay in the hospital also meant Naomi would have to miss an upcoming Taylor Swift concert, in Phoenix.
Her father, Dan, trying to bolster his daughter’s spirits, posted a YouTube video, showing his daughter singing Taylor Swift’s hit, “Bad Blood.”
In the video, the family adopts “Bad Blood” as their theme song, during Naomi’s battle with leukemia. The video asks fellow Swift fans to try to get the singer’s attention, with the hope that Swift might share a #TeamNaomi photo on Instagram, according to Us Weekly.
Swift learned of the video, and decided to help with more than an Instagram post.
The already-popular singer made a $50,000 donation to the family’s GoFundMe page immediately surpassing the family’s target of $30,000.
The message from Swift: “To the beautiful and brave Naomi. I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
