Woman accused of shoplifting briefly escapes police in Montgomery County

A woman arrested for shoplifting briefly got away from police after her arrest Tuesday afternoon.

Montgomery County police said the woman had been arrested for shoplifting at a Giant Food Store on University Boulevard in Wheaton, Maryland.

When the patrol car the woman was in arrived at the Montgomery County Detention Center on Seven Locks Road in Rockville just before 2 p.m., the woman was able to escape the patrol car and run off.

A search of the area for the 19-year-old woman led to her being spotted and arrested by the Rockville Police Department 15 minutes after her escape.
