WASHINGTON — An 11-year-old has been charged with making threats to a Montgomery County middle school Friday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m., police responded to Parkland Magnet School for Aerospace Technology in Rockville, Maryland, after the school received a phone threat. A school faculty member said someone called the school and made a “general threat” against the school’s students, police said.
Police determined an 11-year-old boy, who was not a Parkland student, made the threat. Police have not released details about where the boy attended school.
He was charged with one count of disrupting school activities and one count of making a threat of mass violence. After being charged, the boy was returned to the custody of his parents.
The case has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services for adjudication.
The school sheltered in place until dismissal.
Parkland is a school in the Montgomery County Public School system where its students specialize in studies involving aerospace and robotic engineering. The school includes grades 6, 7 and 8.
