WASHINGTON — Nine families are displaced following a fire at a five-story apartment building in Rockville, Maryland, Thursday evening.
Montgomery County Fire were called to the Galvan at Twinbrook apartments on the 1800 block of Chapman Avenue for a water flow alarm at around 5:30 p.m.
According to Montgomery County Fire spokesman Pete Piringer, sprinkler activation had controlled a fire that started on the fourth floor balcony. Piringer said the fire, which started within the ductwork of the walls and floors, was likely caused by smoking materials.
