WASHINGTON — An outside light fixture caused an early morning fire in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said in tweets that the fire Monday in the middle unit of a row of townhouses in the 900 block of Bayridge Terrace caused $225,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
The family of seven managed to get out safely, thanks to a working smoke detector. Two families have been displaced in the Fernshire Farms neighborhood. The Red Cross is assisting them.
The fire went to two alarms, with 75 firefighters responding.
No one was hurt in the 1 a.m. blaze.
