Cleveland fireworks guy gets it loudly, spectacularly wrong (Video)

WASHINGTON — We all make mistakes at work, and when we do, we fix it quickly and quietly and hope no one notices — or at least that as few people as possible point it out to us before we correct the error.

But on Tuesday night, one man made a mistake at work that was big and loud. Thousands of people saw, and there was no taking it back or fixing it.

The Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians were playing Tuesday when Alex Rios hit a home run for Kansas City. As he rounded the bases, the traditional fireworks shot off into the air in celebration.

Problem: The fireworks tradition is reserved for the home team. The game was being played in Cleveland.

People noticed. And as the Cleveland pyro guy undoubtedly realized, there is no way to un-shoot fireworks.

We’ve all been there, Cleveland fireworks guy.

To their everlasting credit, as CBS Sports reported, the team stood by their man in excellent “Dumb and Dumber”-quoting fashion:

That said, the home team isn’t going to hit a homer with the other team at bat, so it’s hard to understand why the guy couldn’t just take a break during the tops of innings.

But it’s always hard to understand how anyone could make a huge, public mistaek.
