Will Ferrell takes the field at Spring Training

Ferrell began his day with the Oakland Athletics, where he suited up for the first time in green and gold.

Farrell joined his seventh team at his fourth ballpark when he donned a Chicago White Sox jersey and took on the role of DH. While he fared better than in his first at-bat, working a deep count, he eventually struck out once more, and was once again shipped off. (AP Photo/Chris Carlson)
In the move that presented the most obvious risk of something going seriously awry, Farrell strapped on the gear and the mask and got behind the plate to catch for the San Francisco Giants. Ferrell reached his final destination for the day, where he donned Dodger blue and came out of the bullpen for the Los Angeles Dodgers. It wasn’t the first time Ferrell has pitched in a professional baseball game, but this stint went considerably smoother than the last, as he got one out on one pitch — which was bunted back to him on the mound — before being lifted. WASHINGTON — Will Ferrell has something of a history with sports. He’s played athletes on the big screen in everything from semipro basketball to NASCAR racing to figure skating. But on Thursday, he took on a much more genuine athletic endeavor.

As part of a stunt for an upcoming HBO/Funny or Die special, Farrell partnered with Major League Baseball to play all 10 positions on 10 teams in five Spring Training games, all in the same day.

The exercise wasn’t entirely self-serving. The idea was spawned as an homage to former big leaguer Bert Campaneris, who once played all nine field positions in one game.
