WASHINGTON — A Maryland native critically injured in the Las Vegas mass shooting will spend the holidays at home with her family.
Tina Frost passed a “huge milestone” over the weekend, walking out of the inpatient rehabilitation hospital where she has spent the last few weeks receiving care, according to her mother, Mary Watson Moreland, who updated the blog about Frost’s care.
“She can enjoy her family and friends and some normalcy and doing some more on her own. We will continue therapies on an outpatient basis and she continues to get a lil stronger and better every day,” her family writes on the blog.
Frost left the inpatient center and got her in boyfriend, Austin Hughes’ car, in a simple act of normalcy that Frost hasn’t felt in a long time, said family spokeswoman Amy Klinger.
Her mother asked the community respect her daughter’s privacy anyone sees her out in her Crofton neighborhood over the holiday. The community raised more than $600,000 for the Arundel High grad who started her professional life in San Diego as an accountant.
“Although we appreciate all the support, Tina doesn’t like being the center of attention. Please respect her privacy and feelings and not make a big deal of it if you see her out and about. She (and we) can be emotional these days and we want her to be able to acclimate herself to non-hospital life as smoothly as possible,” her family wrote.
Frost was shot through her right eye during the country music concert, and still has a long recovery ahead. Her family feared she would have significant brain damage, but her doctors have continued to be impressed with Frost’s recovery. She was even playing soccer with her father in the Johns Hopkins Hospital before transferring to an inpatient care center.
Frost no longer needs physical therapy, but Klinger said she’ll continue to get speech and occupational therapy. Her family has no way of knowing how long the outpatient recovery process will take.
