WASHINGTON — A Baltimore man died after he and his young son were struck by an SUV after their sled went into a Carroll County, Maryland, road Saturday morning, the sheriff’s department said.
Adam French, 35, and his 4-year-old son were sledding down a driveway in the 3200 block of Lineboro Road, where they were visiting relatives, according to a news release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Their sled entered Lineboro Road, where it was hit by a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driving south.
At 10:47 a.m., police and emergency personnel responded to the scene. French was transported to Carroll Hospital Center and later moved to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. French died at 8:52 p.m. Sunday.
His 4-year-old son, who was taken to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore in critical condition, is expected to recover, the sheriff’s department said Monday.
The driver of the vehicle was Max Nickey, 31, of Westminster, police said. He and his 34-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.
Charges are not expected to be filed against Nickey at this time.
