1 week later, slayings of Aldie mother, son remain unsolved

ALDIE, Va. — One week after Mala Manwani last sent an email to her employer, Loudoun County investigators are still working to determine who shot the woman and her 32-year-old son, Rishi, in their Aldie home.

The yellow crime scene tape that surrounded the brick-faced home on Tomey Court has been taken down. With a car parked in the driveway and two empty garbage cans lying on the sidewalk, one couldn’t tell from looking at the home about the deadly violence that took place inside.

Last Wednesday, Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies went to the home to check on the welfare of Mala, 65, after concerned co-workers reported she hadn’t been in the office.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said deputies found mother and son in different parts of the home — each had been shot multiple times.

Investigators continue to try to narrow the timeline between Mala’s last email and the time the bodies were discovered.

The sheriff’s department has not made public Rishi’s last contacts.

Chapman suspects the murders “were related to potentially criminal activity that was going on inside the residence,” but wouldn’t specify the activity. Asked if drugs were found in the home, Chapman declined to answer.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s office is reminding the public that anonymous tips which lead to an arrest and indictment could lead to a reward.
