ASHBURN, Va. – Supporters of a popular high school principal who’s been on leave for more than a month flooded Tuesday night’s Loudoun County School Board meeting.
They brought signs that said things like “Bring Back Brewer” and “Dr. Brewer is the Heart & Soul of Dominion”.
John Brewer, principal of Dominion High School in Sterling, has been on leave from his job since early December, and the Loudoun County Public Schools superintendent has recommended that he be fired.
Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard said he can’t comment on the reason, because it’s a personnel matter.
What we do know is the Loudoun County Sheriff’s office is investigating accusations of inappropriate behavior by the high school’s former band director.
When that band director left the school, Brewer gave him a letter of recommendation, which he used to get another job in Florida.
More than 200 people signed up to speak during public comment at Tuesday’s school board meeting in Ashburn, and many were there to speak about Brewer, despite the fact that the issue was not on the agenda.
“The students appreciate that he knows everyone’s name, and takes the time to get to know us individually,” said ninth-grader Shane Reilly.
“I believe that he is the best principal that Dominion will ever have,” said Daniella Mendoza, a junior.
“Do the right thing and return Dr. Brewer as principal of Dominion High School as soon as possible,” said Julie Challis.
