WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of people are expected at Washington Dulles International Airport for the airport’s annual free open house.
The Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull is scheduled for Saturday. Airport officials say nearly 100 teams from the community will participate in the plane pull contest, in which teams of 25 people try to pull an 82-ton jet aircraft.
Airport officials say the nine-time defending champion in the plane pull event is the Chesapeake, Virginia, Sheriff’s Office. Two planes, one from FedEx and another from United Airlines, will be used Saturday.
The day also includes a 5k and 10k, entertainment and food. More than 40 current and vintage aircraft will be on display along with about 50 cars and motorcycles.
Airport officials say last year’s event attracted approximately 15,000 visitors.
