Loudoun Co. board accepts applications for vacant Broad Run seat

WASHINGTON — The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is looking for a few good candidates to fill the post vacated by Shawn Williams following his weekend arrest.

The board plans to appoint a new member in the coming weeks to fill Williams’ Broad Run District seat until the end of the year. All nine supervisor seats are up for election this November for a full four-year term.

Al R. Nevarez and Ron Meyer Jr. are currently on the ballot to represent the district. Williams, who stepped down from the post after he was arrested Sunday morning on charges of simple assault and unlawful entry, did not run for re-election.

Applications are due to the board by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Applicants are required to fill out a standard form used by the board to make appointments to boards and commissions. Applicants also must live within the Broad Run District and must be currently registered to vote in the district, which falls roughly between the Sterling and Ashburn districts.

Those interested in applying can check that they live within the district here.

No date has been set when the board will consider the applicants and choose a temporary replacement for Williams. Under Virginia law, the board has 45 days to appoint a replacement.

County spokesman Glen Barbour says the board wanted to make the announcement as soon as possible. They will set a meeting date to vote on the appointment in the coming days.
