WASHINGTON — An emergency preparedness exercise will take place at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Saturday morning to test emergency responses.
Between 9 a.m. and noon, a simulated aircraft accident will give the airport’s first-responders and other area emergency personnel hands-on training. Those participating will respond as if there was a true emergency, using sirens, firefighting equipment, and helicopters.
While the exercise will have no effect on normal airport operations, some parts of the simulation may be seen or heard from area roads, particularly in Arlington and Alexandria around Route 1, George Washington Memorial Parkway and along the Potomac River near the airport.
Scenarios will include a period of fire and smoke, a river rescue and injury simulations.
