WASHINGTON — We have a good problem in local high school football this week — there are too many good games.
The readers voted for Maret vs. Flint Hill last week and we were rewarded with a hard-fought affair that came right down to the wire, with the Huskies’ running game doing just enough to control the ball late and keep the Frogs’ offense off the field, securing a 14-7 win. This week, there are rivalry games with implications all over the area, including some reader submissions.
We’re putting a pair of WCAC matchups on the poll this week, as either could help decide how the league shakes out. Good Counsel (6-3, 4-2 WCAC) heads to Hyattsville to take on DeMatha (8-1, 5-1), ranked #11 in the nation in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25. On the other side of town, the annual grudge match will take place between St. John’s (6-3, 4-2) and Gonzaga (9-0, 6-0), with the #10 ranked Eagles looking to put the finishing touches on a perfect regular season.
Another undefeated season will be on the line as Tuscarora (9-0, 3-0) visits Broad Run (7-2, 2-1) to determine Virginia 5A Conference 14. In a battle of Woodbridge rivals, Hylton (7-2, 4-1 6A Conf. 4) will travel to Forest Park (6-3, 3-2) to take on a Bruins team coming off back-to-back wins. Finally, Westfield (8-1, 4-0) looks to close out an unblemished 6A Conference 5 slate at home against crosstown rival Chantilly (5-4, 2-2).
Vote for your favorite of the five below by 11:59 on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and we’ll preview the winning matchup, then cover it live on Friday night.
