WASHINGTON — Soon, the phrase “9 to 5” will likely refer to nothing more than a baseball score.
A survey released Thursday says that almost two-thirds of American workers think the eight-hour day is a thing of the past.
Half of them keep checking work email when they’re out of work, and more than a third say they work beyond traditional office hours.
One out of five keeps thinking about work until he’s asleep, and more than 40 percent wake up thinking about work.
The study from CareerBuilder, reported in the Miami Herald, says that men are more likely than women to work outside of office hours, but women are more likely to be thinking about work as they drop off to sleep at night.
But about two-thirds of the workers surveyed say they work a different set of hours per day by choice.
