Police: Caregiver caught on camera hitting patient

WASHINGTON – A Baltimore woman is charged with assaulting a 93-year-old Alzheimer’s patient in an Ellicott City assisted living facility after she was caught on a hidden camera installed in the patient’s room.

The video shows Christina R. Randall, 26, pushing and hitting the patient, who was under her care at Lighthouse Senior Living on North Ridge Road, according to Howard County police.

Police say the patient also had bruising on his torso and arm.

Family members installed the camera out of concern for the man’s well-being. The family gave the footage to police after seeing what appeared to be abuse on the video, police say.

Randall is charged with second-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult.

Police urge anyone who believes a family member has been abused at an assisted living facility or nursing home to call 410-313-STOP.
