If you bought chicken at Wegmans on Sunday, Jan. 3, you may need to return it to the store. Four types of vacuum-sealed chicken are part of the recall. A federal inspection prompted the recall, with the inspector saying there "a reasonable probability" that consuming the chicken will result in serious, adverse health consequences or death.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A New York-based grocery store chain is recalling more than 1,000 pounds of chicken.
A federal inspector found during a review that Wegmans altered its production schedule and produced chicken products outside the approved hours of operation. Chicken products produced on Sunday were never inspected.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday night that it issued a Class 1 recall, classified as a situation that has “a reasonable probability” that consuming the product will result in serious, adverse health consequences or death.
There haven’t yet been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions from the chicken.
The chicken was shipped to distribution and retail locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The grocery store chain, based in Rochester, is offering full refunds for eligible products.
The following products produced on Jan. 3, 2016 are subject to recall:
Approximately 1 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Italian Flavored Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/24/2016.
Approximately 1 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/15/2016.
3 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Garlic & Fennel Whole Chicken Roaster” with a use-by date of 1/13/2016.
1-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wokery Sherry Chicken 27482” with use-by date of 1/13/2016.
The products have the number “EST. or P-7567” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution and retail locations in Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
