EARLIER:
WASHINGTON — Jesse Matthew has been charged with first-degree murder in the case of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, officials will announce Tuesday in Albemarle County, Virginia, according to reports from WVIR and WTVR.
County police chief and prosecutor will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. where they are expected to announce that Matthew, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Graham.
Matthew has already been charged with abduction with intent to defile in the Graham case, in nearby Charlottesville. The 18-year-old student disappeared from the downtown mall in September and was found dead in Albemarle County a few weeks later.
Police have said forensic evidence also connects Matthew to the 2009 disappearance and death of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, whose body was also found in the county.
Matthew is being held in Fairfax County in connection with a 2005 sexual assault.
