WASHINGTON – High winds led to a large number of power outages for Potomac Edison customers in Frederick, County, Maryland.
As of 7 p.m., the outages were down to about 300 residents. But at one point, roughly 2,500 were without electricity. Police said the winds caused the city of Frederick’s traffic lights to stop working downtown.
The downtown traffic lights are now functioning properly, police said.
On Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Frederick County and northern Montgomery County that warned of wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.
There were scattered reports of downed trees and wires in Montgomery County, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.
The wind advisory is in effect until 11 p.m.
