WASHINGTON — A man is facing charges for impersonating a police officer after he put another driver in handcuffs at the scene of a traffic crash Wednesday night in Chantilly, Virginia.
When Fairfax County police arrived at the crash around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Jackson Memorial Highway and Elmwood Street, they found one of the drivers involved in handcuffs, as if he was under arrest.
Arta Javanbakhtamarlouei, 33, of Centreville, told an officer that he put the other driver in handcuffs because “he felt threatened by the way the other driver was acting,” police said.
Javanbakhtamarlouei had taken an eight-hour criminal justice course and had the authority to arrest people, he told the officer.
He also had a wallet with two badges: Javanbakhtamarlouei bought the concealed weapon badge online and the private investigator badge was allegedly from a previous security officer job, but police said he had not been in the security field for over four years.
Police said that at the time, Javanbakhtamarlouei was wearing black pants, a gray tank top and a black duty belt with several pouches that he also bought online. The gun that appeared to be real in his holster was a BB gun, police said.
