VIENNA, Va. (AP) — A search warrant says hackers have attempted to change grades at a Virginia high school.
The Washington Post cites the warrant filed in Fairfax County that says the attack began in November when emails were sent from a known Oakton High School Honor Council with a link it purported would take readers to news about the organization.
Detectives note in the warrant that the link caused a reader’s computer to download a “key logger” program that steals information such as passwords by recording keystrokes.
This is just the latest in a string of schools nationwide that are being hacked to change grades. Just last month, a University of Georgia student was charged with hacking into a professor’s computer to change his grades.
Fairfax County police say the investigation is ongoing.
