WASHINGTON — Fairfax County, Virginia, is putting popular technology to use in its public meetings by asking residents to submit video testimony on YouTube.
The pilot program kicks off with the Board of Supervisors’ hearings on the fiscal 2018 budget.
Hoping to get residents thoughts on what is set to be included and cut, county spokesman Tony Castrilli said in a release that the board will play the first five appropriate videos it receives.
The videos have to be submitted a full day before the 1 p.m. hearings on April 5 and April 6, and must run under three minutes; those speaking for a group have five minutes.

More than enough videos have been submitted ahead of the April 4 meeting, but Castrilli said those that are not played will be added to the record.
