Multiple ATMs stolen in Fairfax Co.

WASHINGTON — Several businesses with ATMs inside have been targeted by thieves, who haul away the cash machines.

Six machines have been reported stolen in just the past month in Fairfax County, and only one has been recovered.

“They go into the business after hours, breaking into the business, and they target the ATM,” says Officer Shayna Nicholas of Fairfax County Police.

She says the thefts appear similar to ones in other parts of the region.

The affected businesses include a bowling alley, a buffet restaurant and a convenience store, and some have surveillance cameras.

“We’re still trying to collect that as well, trying to collect all the evidence within the store that could help us find the people responsible,” said Nicholas.

The suspects are described as black, between 175 and 200 pounds, and about 5-foot-10.

In every case, the thieves have been careful to wear dark clothing and keep faces covered.

Police say it looks like the same person or people may be responsible for all the thefts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective S. Brown at 703-277-2464, or Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
