WASHINGTON — A series of shootings outside office buildings late at night had police in several Virginia cities scratching their heads. Now, they say they’ve found the man responsible.
Fairfax County Police say 29-year-old Matthew Malacarne of Herndon is facing felony destruction of property charges after they say he opened fire on multiple office buildings in Herndon, Leesburg and Fairfax County.
Working together, detectives used evidence in a Sept. 17 shooting in Herndon where investigators say the suspect destroyed a building’s security camera, key lock box and shut down its elevators.
Investigators say that evidence linked Malacarne to other late-night building shootings — one in which some employees were still inside at the time. No one was hurt.
Malacarne will face a judge on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
