FCPS elementary school worker charged with sex assault

WASHINGTON – A man who has worked at a Falls Church, Virginia elementary school for several years has been arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Police took Dennis Belyea, 45, of Culpeper into custody last Tuesday.

According to Prince William County police, Belyea allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage boy on more than one occasion between 2004 and 2010 in Manassas, Virginia.

Fairfax County Public Schools released a statement to WTOP, confirming Belyea has worked at Bailey’s Elementary School in Falls Church since 2011.

He worked as a tech support employee, and has been suspended without pay.

According to a spokesman for the school system, Bailey’s Elementary School sent information home to parents, telling them what happened following the arrest.

Before he worked at Bailey’s, Belyea worked as a computer systems teacher at Edison Academy, which is part of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Belyea is being held without bond, charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

The alleged victim in the case was a “known acquaintance” of Belyea.  He is now 24-years old.

In September, he told family members about the alleged abuse, leading to the investigation, according to police.
