WASHINGTON — A 6-year-old boy sledding on a steep driveway is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle, Fairfax County police say.
The child was struck on the 7000 block of Matthew Mills Road in McLean, Virginia, around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday by a 65-year-old driver from McLean.
Police say the driver of the Lexus “heard a loud noise, recognized what had happened, immediately got out and rendered aid to the child.”
The boy at the time was using a flat-bottomed sled under adult supervision. Police initially said the boy was using a snowboard.
He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in life-threatening condition.
Police say neither speed nor alcohol contributed to the accident and no charges had been filed.
This story has been modified after police originally reported the boy had been on a snowboard when he was hit by the car.
