WASHINGTON — Someone definitely had to wipe off the microphone Friday night after Bill Murray — comedian, actor and, of course, Chicago Cubs fan — sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the 7th inning stretch of the first World Series game played at Wrigley Field since 1945.
Why? Because he did so in his typical wacky fashion: in the voice of Daffy Duck.
The Chicago native took the mic at Friday night’s game and screamed, “It’s the bottom of the 7th inning: the last chance to order a beer. But we didn’t come here to drink beer, we came here to win this ballgame!”
He sang as Daffy Duck because, he said, the character is “our greatest American entertainer.”
“So I want you to spray it, and don’t say it!” he yelled.
The Cleveland Indians ended up beating the Cubs 1-0, now leading the series 2-1.
