WASHINGTON — Daniel Radcliffe finally found a role he couldn’t play — receptionist.
The actor known for the Harry Potter films, as well as taking on “Equus” on Broadway, spent an hour as a receptionist at Nylon magazine’s New York office as part of a hidden-camera stunt. He predicted it wouldn’t go well, and it didn’t.
After getting some instructions from incumbent receptionist Lauren Adler, Radcliffe predicted, “It’s gonna be tough.” As People reports, it was.
A few Nylon workers didn’t recognize the star, or pretended not to (he introduced himself as “Dan” and never pretended not to be who he was), but eventually the star-struck looks and the selfies started happening.
Still, work had to be done, and Radcliffe, who pronounced himself capable of handing out the bathroom key and not much else and called himself “a cut-price, much less efficient version” of Adler, began to fray under the pressure. His self-assessment began to get more negative, as well as R-rated.
On Nylon’s YouTube page, a Nylon worker wrote, “I received no phone calls during that hour, which was strange. And a package that was supposedly delivered to the office for me never made it to my desk.”
Fellow celebrity Joe Jonas was more succinct: As Radcliffe scrambled to find someone, he muttered, “This new guy sucks.”
