WASHINGTON — A man spent one year proposing to his girlfriend, and a video of the endeavor is going viral.

In an impressive countdown, Dean Smith filmed himself proposing to his girlfriend, Jennifer, every day for 365 days using a whiteboard. The project began Jan. 8, 2014 — her birthday.

Smith reveals in the video that he started the project when he knew he wanted to marry her in 2014.

“I know that you’re the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, but I want the timing to be perfect and make this moment special. For the next year, I’ll show you how much I love you and that you’re in my thoughts every day. I want to marry you,” Smith says in the video.

The video shows him lip-syncing and dancing as well as going through the more mundane parts of life such as working, flossing, cooking, reading, doing laundry and eating.

The effort culminated in a proposal at the beach during a family vacation in Aruba exactly one year after the effort began. It, of course, involved whiteboards and was caught on film, too.

The video, which was posted on YouTube Jan. 18, has been viewed more than 7.6 million times as of March 9.
