Trump campaign to spend more than $2M on Virginia TV

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Donald Trump’s campaign is planning to spend more than $2 million on TV ads in Virginia, a signal that it continues to view the Old Dominion as a competitive swing state.

The GOP presidential nominee also announced Monday a new state “leadership team” of current and former elected officials, including several Republicans who have aspirations to run for statewide office in 2017.

Trump’s announcement comes a week after the campaign fired its Virginia campaign chairman, Corey Stewart, after he led a protest at GOP headquarters complaining that party-establishment “pukes” were undercutting their own nominee. The Trump campaign also reassigned some of its campaign staff to North Carolina last week.

Democrat Hillary Clinton has led in polls here and has shifted some campaign resources away from Virginia toward other states.
