Which local school districts pay teachers the most, least

WASHINGTON — When it comes to teacher pay, Arlington County tops the list, according to a new study comparing wages at local school districts.

The annual Washington Area Boards of Education report measured teacher pay for 10 school districts and tracked other metrics, such as per-pupil spending for 2016 and classroom size.

The report finds the average teacher salary in Arlington County was $78,002 a year. Falls Church schools ranked second, at $76,495.

Montgomery County, in Maryland, ranked third, paying its teachers an average of $76,029. That’s about $9,300 more than the average in neighboring Prince George’s County.

At the opposite end of the pay scale, Manassas Park, in Virginia, had the lowest average teacher salary — at $57,633.

Prince William County and Manassas in Virginia were also near the bottom when it comes to pay, offering teachers average salaries of $64,523 and $64,121 respectively.

D.C. is not included in the report.
