DC police investigate shooting on I-695

WASHINGTON — Police in D.C. are investigating after a man on a motorcycle was shot along Interstate 695 early Sunday morning.

Police said the motorcyclist was shot around 3 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the exit for 6th Street in Southeast, a stretch of highway that runs between Capitol Hill and the Navy Yard toward the Anacostia River and 295.

The victim was conscious and breathing as he was taken to a hospital, police said.

Officers closed both the east and westbound lanes of the highway for a few hours as they searched for clues. Police said the shooter was in a silver Lexus, but it’s not clear if it was the driver or another person who was riding inside the vehicle that opened fire.

Police also don’t yet know how many shots were fired.

All lanes of the highway reopened shortly after 6 a.m.
