WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in Southwest Washington.
Kevin Thompson, 28, attacked a woman who was walking on First Street Southwest on Aug. 22 last year, prosecutors said.
At around 11 p.m., the woman said, she was on her way home from work when Thompson began following her. According to court documents, the woman told police she tried to deter Thompson by taking out her phone, but it didn’t work.
The woman told investigators that Thompson grabbed her by her shirt and hair, dragged her into a wooded area and sexually assaulted her repeatedly in a trash-filled ditch. The victim told the court that she believed that night was her “last day on earth.”
The woman told police she was able to escape when Thompson was distracted. She called 911; police caught up with and arrested Thompson later that night, prosecutors said.
Back in May, a jury found Thompson guilty of first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree sexual abuse and kidnapping. He was sentenced Friday by D.C. Superior Court Judge Hiram E. Puig-Lugo.
When Thompson is released from prison, he will spend the rest of his life on supervised release, according to prosecutors.
