WASHINGTON — A man trying to rescue his dog that fell down a hill in Rock Creek Park became stranded on the steep, icy slope for more than two hours on Wednesday afternoon.
D.C. firefighters set up a rope system to help pull the man and his dog off the hillside in a wooded area of the park near the 4200 block of Blagden Avenue after noon, as temperatures remained below freezing.
The man went down the hill near the Valley Trail to rescue his Bernese mountain dog that had slipped and fell. Another person who was with them called 911 for help, the fire department said.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of exposure to the cold and minor injuries. The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment of exposure to the cold, the fire department said.
