WASHINGTON — A Southeast D.C. elementary school will reopen after undergoing thorough cleaning to rid the school of a monthslong bedbug and pest infestation.
After weeks of attending classes at Ferebee-Hope Elementary School in Northeast, students will be able to return to Savoy Elementary School on Monday, Feb. 27. The school, once infested with bedbugs, rats and mice, now has newly installed carpet, according to a Facebook post by Savoy Elementary. All “soft materials” have been replaced.
Parents of Savoy Elementary students have reported pests since November. The Department of General Services began cleaning on Feb. 3. Students have been attending classes at Ferebee-Hope Elementary, about five miles away from Savoy, since Feb. 8.
