The public was heard: eaglets have been named

WASHINGTON — The public has spoken: two bald eaglets who hatched in a nest in the National Arboretum in March have names.

The children of The President and First Lady have been named “Freedom” and “Liberty” by popular vote.

The American Eagle Foundation solicited ideas for names on social media. The top five name pairs were then put to an online vote, where more than 36,000 people cast their ballot.

According to the American Eagle Foundation, more than 35 million people tuned into the Eagle Cam since it launched in February. The two eggs were laid four days apart, on Feb. 10 and Feb. 14. They hatched just a little more than a month later on March 16 and March 20.
