Boy, 6, shot during D.C. home invasion

WASHINGTON — A 6-year-old boy is recovering from injuries after he was shot during a home invasion in Northeast Washington late Wednesday night.

D.C. police say someone broke into a home on Foote Street near Eastern Avenue just before midnight and opened fire, hitting the boy at least twice.

“It’s a tragic situation that an innocent child has been severely injured as a result of this,” said police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

The boy was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Police are working to find the person responsible, talking with people who were inside the home at the time and trying to determine if the shooter was a stranger or someone they know.

Investigators are hoping to receive tips from the public.

“We’re just asking for anybody with information to provide that to police, and you will be eligible for reward money,” Sternbeck said.

If you have any information, you can call the police at 202-727-9099, or text your tip to 50411.
