WASHINGTON — Four days after 15-year-old Davonte Washington was gunned down in front of his mom and sisters at the Deanwood Metro station, a large crowd gathered at the site to remember the boy and comfort his grief-stricken family.

“We love you,” “You have our sympathy,” “We’re here for you,” members of the crowd cried out as Washington’s mother and other family members wept.

“I just really appreciate everybody for coming out here, supporting my baby, I really do,” Washington’s mother said.

Candles were lit in memory of Washington and some in the crowd sported T-shirts or dangled laminated cards from neck straps depicting the boy with angel’s wings.

Balloons were released and floated high above a Metro train leaving the station.

“I just want to say to all the young faces that I see out here, do the right thing … do the right thing … everything cannot be solved by a gun,” said Victor Leonard, grandfather of Davonte, while the slain boy’s sister sobbed inconsolably.

Washington was gunned down on Saturday in front of his mom and sisters while on his way to get a haircut for Easter.

According to court documents, an eyewitness told police that Washington was shot by a 17-year-old irked that Washington had looked at him.

The 17-year-old is being held without bond and faces charges including second-degree murder.
