WASHINGTON — This past week, Pepco proudly pointed out that more than 40,000 people had signed an electronic petition backing the Pepco-Exelon merger that’s currently under consideration by D.C. regulators.
But on Wednesday, it came to the attention of Pepco and Exelon that some of the signatures on the petition might not be legitimate—that maybe Lactose Intolerance, Phenomenal Woman, Your Mom and Super Wild were simply put on the list for laughs.
WAMU reporter Patrick Madden spotted a few of the more questionable names and spotlighted them in his Twitter feed. Others can’t be printed here—or broadcast on air.
By Friday, the names had been scrubbed from the petition.
Paul Elsberg, a spoekesman at Exelon, noted that even once the “inappropriate or otherwise irregular names” had been removed, more than 40,000 signatures remained on the document, going on the record in favor of the $6 billion dollar deal that’s now before the D.C. Public Service Commission.
