WASHINGTON — While the Nation of Islam holds a rally on the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March, a local mosque is bracing for counter protests.
Masjid Muhammad, also known as the Nation’s Mosque, has been in contact with Homeland Security and D.C. Police about the planned demonstration on Saturday.
“In one of their emails they said that they were going to bring 3,000 people to Washington, D.C. in front of our mosque, and they were encouraging people to bring their weapons,” Ibrahim Mumim, the community outreach adviser, told WUSA 9.
“We consider that kind of a threat,” he says.
A so-called “Global Rally for Humanity” has called for anti-Islamic protests across the country.
“Humanity is attacked every day by radical Islam,” its social media page says.
It calls participants “fellow patriots.”
The mosque is located in Shaw at 1519 4th Street NW.
