WASHINGTON — A steady stream of mourners paid their respects Sunday night to the three members of the Savopoulos family who were found slain inside their burned Northwest D.C. home last month, along with their housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa.
A wake was held for Amy and Savvas Savopoulos, and their 10-year-old son, Phillip.
Among the mourners was Doris Dixon, of D.C., who remembers the family for its generosity.
“Amy and Savvas were wonderful, wonderful people … very generous. Amy and I were on a committee of the opera together, and they opened their home to our events,” Dixon said.
Daron Wint is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of the Savopoulos family and Figueroa. Authorities say in court papers that they believe others were involved, but currently, Wint is the only person charged.
The funeral for the family will take place Monday afternoon at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Northwest D.C.
