WASHINGTON — A Howard University Ph.D. student has been located after he was missing for more than two days.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday afternoon that 33-year-old Lance Buckley, a Ph.D. student at the D.C. university, was found in good condition in Frederick County, Maryland.
Brunswick Police and National Park Service rangers found Buckley at the Brunswick Family Campground near Harper’s Ferry in West Virginia.
“We are truly pleased that Mr. Buckley was found safe and in good condition,” said Stafford Sheriff Charles Jett in a news release. “The partnership between the law enforcement agencies, the Media and citizens in this region were critical to locating Lance Buckley.”
Buckley had last been seen on Tuesday morning when he was dropped off at the Staffordboro Commuter Lot in Stafford, Virginia, where he uses a slug line to commute to Howard University.
Officials say Buckley, a father of two girls who are 3 years old and 11 days old, was on his way to campus to pick up graduation materials. He is set to graduate this weekend.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office says Buckley sent his wife, Amy, a text message around 10:15 a.m. from D.C., but hadn’t been heard from since.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office released photos of Buckley using the ATM at Howard University on the morning he was last seen.
On Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said it very briefly electronically located Buckley’s phone in the area of Blockhouse Point Conservation Park in Montgomery County.
Officials searched the area, but did not find him.
On Wednesday evening, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said Buckley may be in the possession of a hand gun, but is “absolutely no danger to anyone.”
