Two arrested after D.C. bank robbery

WASHINGTON — The FBI arrested two men in connection with a bank robbery in northwest D.C. Friday and they are trying to determine if they are connected to other cases.

Bank robbers struck the Wells Fargo branch in the 4300 block of Connecticut Avenue near the Van Ness Metro Station and outran the Secret Service to get away, NBC4 reports.

One man is described as 6-foot-1 with a medium build and wearing a mask, a navy jacket with a hood, glasses, black pants and black Nikes with a white swoosh and soles. He is said to have had a black handgun during the robbery, D.C. police said. He then got some money and  jumped into an SUV driven by another person. The SUV sped off into Bethesda outrunning authorities.

But then two men were arrested after a warrant was served in southeast Washington.

Authorities are trying to figure out if these two are  part of the  “Black Hat Bandits,” who are believed responsible for at least eight armed bank robberies throughout the D.C. area. Local and federal enforcement continue to follow all leads.
