The Silver Line extension only opened in November, but it’s already impacting how people get to Dulles International Airport in Virginia, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s board of directors.
Based on surveys, 7% of passengers reported using Metro to arrive at Dulles Airport, and 11% reported using Metro to leave the airport, according to data discussed during a Jan. 18 meeting of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s board of directors.
The survey was conducted between Dec. 1 and Jan. 9.
An MWAA spokesman said the agency doesn’t have data for the number of expected passengers during that time frame, but it’s “pleased with the survey results.”
It comes after the Silver Line extension opened back on Nov. 15 with five new stations extending from Reston to the airport and Ashburn.
An airports authority official said about 15% of travelers currently use Metro’s Blue and Yellow Lines at Reagan National Airport.
