Suspect targeted man assaulted at I-66 rest area, police say

WASHINGTON — Virginia State Police shut down the westbound Interstate 66 rest area in Manassas, Virginia, for hours Wednesday morning after a man was found assaulted there.

Police responded to a call around 6:22 a.m., and found the man hurt. State Police said he was taken to a hospital, but is expected to survive.

According to the initial investigation, it appears the man was targeted.

Police are asking anyone who saw the assault at the rest area or who has other information to call Virginia State Police at #77 or 703-803-0026.

The rest area reopened around noon.
