WASHINGTON — In a report to its board, Metro says service worsened in more areas than it improved in 2015, starting with on-time performance.
The agency saw more shortfalls last year, according to the analysis. Rail and bus fleet reliability also took a hit.
Metro attributes reliability issues to mechanical failures, and the stress the new Silver Line put on Metro’s maintenance program.
Rail passenger satisfaction fell as a result.
The injury rate to both customers and employees increased, due in part to the well-publicized smoke incident at L’Enfant Plaza.
There were improvements in elevator and escalator availability, and the overall crime rate.
To improve service going forward, according to the report, Metro suggests it accelerates the new 7000 series car delivery, add new buses, hire a chief safety officer and install public safety radio systems.
