DC job fair for military vets this week has more than 50 companies hiring

RecruitMilitary.com, which holds career fares for military veterans across the country, is hosting a large jobs fair at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in D.C. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.

There are currently 53 companies signed up for the recruiting event, some hiring on the spot, for jobs in a wide range of industries, from government agencies to government contractors, education, hospitality, health care and other private employers.

RecruitMilitary.com has hosted 39 job fares for military veterans in the D.C. area to date. At its last local event in March, job offers were extended to 156 candidates.

RecruitMilitary, part of Chesapeake, Virginia-based military and veteran staffing company Bradley-Morris, says companies attending the D.C. event this week have 72,000 jobs available on its job board database, though that is not how many jobs will be available at this job fare.

In 2022, the company’s in-person career fares drew almost 21,000 registrations and 3,800 participating companies nationwide.

The unemployment rate among military veterans in 2022 was 2.8%, lower than the unemployment rate for nonveterans of 3.6%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Veterans have work and life skills that are attractive to many employers, but RecruitMilitary said the job search for veterans is not necessarily easy.

This week’s career fare at the convention center is free to attend, and job seekers can register online.
