iFly opens second indoor skydiving experience in Gaithersburg

WASHINGTON — Austin, Texas-based iFly Indoor Skydiving has opened its second Washington area location in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

You will find iFly Montgomery at 9400 Gaither Road.

Like its location in Ashburn, Virginia, which opened in 2016, iFly is a vertical wind tunnel with fans at the top to draw air through the flight chamber, and push it back down through return air towers, compressing and speeding up the air before it reenters the flight chamber.

A safety class is provided and an instructor guides the customer in the chamber, which simulates the sensation of skydiving.

Flyers also get flight gear, with goggles, helmet and flight suit.

The company says no experience is needed.

“Everyone from novices to veteran thrill seekers can experience the adrenaline-boosting freefall sensation of body flight in a safe, comfortable and fun environment indoors,” it says.

Prices start at around $80 for two flight sessions for one person.

Founded in 1998, iFly has more than 40 locations.
