WASHINGTON — Outdoor retailer Gander Mountain, which closed all 120 of its stores last May and was bought out of bankruptcy by Camping World Holdings, has started reopening stores under the new name Gander Outdoors.
The former Fredericksburg, Virginia, Gander Mountain will reopen as a Gander Outdoors store sometime in mid-January or February, according to Camping World Holdings.
Marcus Lemonis, star of CNBC’s “The Profit,” is chairman of Camping World Holdings.
“It was important to me to bring the Gander Outdoors back to the wonderful community of Fredericksburg because the employees were top notch and the store was a great performer,” Lemonis said.
Lemonis has said the goal is to reopen as many as 70 former Gander Mountain locations as Gander Outdoors, subject to acceptable lease terms.
“In addition to the Fredericksburg location, we are currently pursuing other locations for reopening and expansion and expect to announce additional locations and markets in coming weeks.”
Several other locations are also reopening, with most that make the cut opening by the end of May or middle of June, according to a Lemonis Facebook post.
Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Camping World Holdings owns more than 135 recreational vehicle dealers and retailers in 36 states. It also owns Good Sam Enterprises, Overtone’s, The House, Uncle Dan’s and Windward/W82.
Earlier this week, Camping World said it agreed to acquire Erehwon Mountain Outfitter, a specialty retailer of outdoor gear and apparel with stores in the Midwest.
